Dr Neil Hayes completed his doctoral degree in psychology at the University of Oxford in 1987, specialising in the field of unconscious learning. It was at this time that his fascination with the psychological teachings of the Buddha began.
He left an academic career to work in industry, and became a leader in large-scale computer systems. Throughout his career in technology, he maintained his passion for understanding the human mind, and he regularly writes articles on both subjects.
He has remained an active meditator for three decades, and has meditated with, and learnt from, monks and other practitioners in multiple Buddhist traditions.
In 2015, he brought all his experience together in a book - A View From A Lake: Buddha, Mind and Future. In this book, he takes the reader on a journey through the human mind, from Ancient India to the Internet Age. On this journey, the reader learns how to understand and manage their mind, both for the benefit of their own wellbeing, and as part of a much-needed cultural change.
Neil is a family man, and a double cancer-survivor. He lives in Lyme Regis.
